These are shots of the much older A13 dual carriageway east of the M25, up to Sadler's Hall farm magic roundabout, marking the end of the A13 dual, grade-separated section. The M25 flyover was built as an incomplete stub as early as 1982, when the motorway first arrived in these parts, but wasn't put into use until the first part of the Dagenham to Aveley section was completed in 1998. Approximate route mileage in this section: 14 miles.
NOTE: This section is spread across TWO pages! To view the remaining photos, click "Next" at the top of the first page!
A similar shot is shown in the Dagenham/Aveley section, but here is a view from Ship Lane towards the eastbound approach to J30. This stretch forms the eastern-most part of the 1998-built section. The flyover however dates from 1982, when its western end was left as an incomplete stub.

Looking over the clockwise off-slip, showing the unusual sight of blue signs with patches on them! Lakeside and Purfleet have to be accessed from here, since J31 has no exit from the clockwise. Feeder roads provide movements for traffic heading between the A13 and J31 clockwise, and J31 to the A13 anti-clockwise. But there are slips linking J31 directly with the mainline of the A282/M25 (and vice versa) immediately north of J31. The eastern span of the A13 flyover is visible on the left.

The D2 flyover at the M25 junction (J30). west of here there is a lane-drop from D3, east of here a brief lane-gain, then a drop for the A126 Lakeside Thurrock exit, then it widens back out to D3 after some hatching. This interchange was open in 1982, with the flyover as an incomplete stub. Therefore it was out of use for seventeen years until the new section west to Dagenham was built! Traffic heading west had to turn off here and head down to J31 to pick up what is now the A1306, and vice versa.

The D3 section in Essex ends here at the A128 junction known as Orsett Cock after a nearby pub along the old A13 (A1013), which also has access to the junction. The west-facing slips carrying the lane-drop/gain. This is a view from Rectory Road just to the west of the junction, looking west towards the lane-drop/gain.

Approach sign for Orsett Cock on the A1013 (old A13) heading west. The A1013 towards Grays has been incorrectly labelled "A1012". The real A1012 is in fact further west. The tree obscures "Chadwell St. Mary", through which the A128 used to go on its way to Tilbury. Much of this section was declassified, except the southernmost stretch, transferred to the A126.

I used maximum zoom on my camera to try and eliminate as much of the grating as possible (some visible however) to show the approach signage to the Stanford-le-Hope junction. A1014 signposted to Shell Haven, Coryton and Stanford-le-Hope. Non-primary sign for the B1007 shows Horndon-on-the-Hill, and Corringham (near Shell Haven) via the A1014. The A1013 also has access.
